Session #88 · 1963–65

Speech #880057040

Governments are instituted among Men. deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed. Do we believe in Lincolns Gettysburg Address. that this is a government not only of the people. but by the people and for the people? Do we believe in the 14th amendment to the Constitution. which provides that no State shall deprive any citizen of the equal protection of the laws. that all persons born or naturalized in the United States are not only citizens of a particular State but also citizens of the United States. and that no person shall be deprived of life. liberty. or property without due process of law? There is no room for secondclass citizenship under the 14th amendment. These are things we talk about on the Fourth of July.
