How long will the Soviet Union continue this denial of a cardinal principle upon which it was founded? How long will the people of Latvia. Lithuania. and Estonia remain in bondage or in exile? The suffering of those who were deported cannot be expunged. But the principles for which they stood. the heritage which they preserved will live on as reminders that for people who truly believe in independence of spirit there can be no denial of the right of selfdetermination. The spirit of liberty is alive in the hearts of the Baltic peoples and will not be extinglished by totalitarian oppression.
