Many persons know his name from his chairmanship of the Committee on UnAmerican Activities. Here he did outstanding work in vigorously opposing all those forces determined to undermine the American way of life. For this work alone he did deserve the thanks of all of us. However. there was an area that he worked in that was little known about. Here he showed a true stature of being a great humanitarian. This was in the field of international refugee relief. For over 3 years. I saw the deep interest he had in this truly charitable work of helping the refugees. Many thousands of refugees now in Australia. Latin America. Israel.
