During those years he served as a member of the Committee on the Judiciary. It was my privilege to serve with him on that committee for the past 20 years. He served as chairman of Subcommittee No. 1. on Immigration and Nationality for many years and for 14 of those years I sat beside him in committee meetings too numerous to recall. Most of those years were characterized by trying human problems growing out of the crisis of World War II and events in its aftermath. In the search for solutions to those problems "TAD" was always motivated by what he believed to be our best national interests.
