Speech #880050143

On the other hand. however. "TAD." as he was affectionately called. will be gratefully and happily remembered for his magnificent 30year contribution to good government and good laws that are on the statute books today as a result of his ability. fairness. astuteness. and creative genius. FRANCIS WALTER was a courageous man as well as a splendid legislator. As his close personal friend and one who served with him for over 18 years on both the Judiciary Committee of the House of Representatives and the Subcommittee of Immigration and Nationality. I saw at close hand how he worked. how he operated and how he reacted under fire from his critics. When he felt he was rightand generally he was--he called for full steam ahead and got the job done. his accusers and hecklers to the contrary notwithstanding.
