The use of Mexican workers inevitably depresses wages in those areas where they are employed. This necessitates the holding of public hearings throughout the country in an effort to determine proper wage rates that will not have an adverse effect on our domestic farmworkers. It involves considerable effort and expense by the Immigration and Naturalization Service in finding and deporting those braceros who remain in this country illegally. It involves the constant problem of trying to assure decent housing for the braceros. The load of administrative difficulties involved in the enforcement of Public Law 78 is a constant source of irritation.
