Session #88 · 1963–65

Speech #880048178

The daycare bill would make it unnecessary for migratory farmworkers to take their young children into the field with them. The child labor bill would protect children from harmful employment in agriculture. Both of these bills were passed by the Senate in the last Congress. Had these bills been signed into law. the tragedy of these young migrant children might not have occurred. It is incumbent. therefore. upon us here in the Congress to see to it that these sound measures are enacted in this session. It is the very least we can do for the children of migratory farmworkers.
