Session #87 · 1961–63

Speech #870270333

As long as the present system prevails. Poles will flee from their homeland. and those of them who risk flight do so with the odds against them. Therefore. continued admission into the United States of refugees and recent escapees from Po* land is fully warranted and should constitute an important point of our foreign and immigration policy. The Polish refugee problem still remains unsolved. Poles. reluctant to return to their homeland as long as it is ruled by Communists. represent the largest single group among the war and postwar refugees in Western Europe. There are thousands of them in Germany. Austria.
