Fulton Street. and to make this into a fairyland of orchards. gardens. and berry patches. The village became the city in the 1830s. the infant city of homes and churches. Our own Roman Catholic Society had its little edifice on Jay Street. as early as 1822. but there would come greater days when immigrants from the Emerald Isle would come up into the mansions. to swell the parishes of the Assumption and St. Charles Borromeo. Meanwhile. the people on the heights were of other persuasions. and they set about to draw from this garden of delight stone forests for God.
