Session #87 · 1961–63

Speech #870217273

Mr. Speaker. the United States is a Nation created by immigrants. and strengthened by succeeding generations of immigrants who loved freedom above all else. In the long line of freedom fighters who starbrighten our history. none is more inspiring than the Polishborn patriot who became one of us. His immortal name is: Wladimir B. Krzyzanowski. When the Civil War broke out. he was one of the first to volunteer in defense of the Union. The indomitable courage that he brought to the service of his country won for him grateful recognition and increasing responsibilities. On the day before the attack on Fort Sumter he enlisted as a private of the Turner Rifles at Washington.
