Speaker. today marks the 21st anniversary of the Russian invasion of the Baltic States of Lithuania. Estonia. and Latvia. During 3 agonizing days of brutality and terror more than 100.000 proud. defiant. and freedomloving people were deported to concentration camps in remote regions of Siberia. In these squalid and pestiferous camps. these people were left to die for their crimethe crime of wanting to be free. of opposing enslavement by their sinister Communist neighbors. Today the fate of those who remain in this enslaved area is largely uncertain. but one fact has been clearly established. Under the yoke of Communist oppression. more than 600.000 people have been murdered or deported. Yet. the Communist rule and domination of these enslaved people has not succeeded in crushing out their hope for freedom. It is our solemn duty as citizens of a free and democratic country to vigorously oppose this sort of tyranny wherever it has occurred. and wherever it will occur in the future.
