I received two or three. critical letters asking why I wanted to bring more Chinese into this country when we. already have- an. unemployment. problem. I hold in my hand the answer to- that argument. The HickeyFreeman Co.. of Rochester. N.Y.. one of the Nations leading clothing manufacturers. has: just informed me that it is ready to. offer em-. ployment to 150 Chinese refugees as tairors. hand sewers. and sewing machine operators. This offer has the support of labor and plans are already underway to making housing available for the refugees. In their wire to me. the company indicates that its offer is prompted by "economic and humanitarian" motives. I commend this firm for its action and hope it will serve as an inspiration to others throughout the country and the world.
