Speech #870197152

I should like to join in extending our congratulations and welcome to our visitors from that great Eastern empire. the Empire of Japan. I have been in Japan four times. and I have always been impressed with the tremendous prosperity. industriousness. and growth of that country. Approximately 30 percent of the people of the State of Hawaii are of Japanese ancestry. In our State during the past year we celebrated the 75th anniversary of the coming to that State of the first immigrants of Japanese ancestry. The people of Japanese ancestry who live in the State of Hawaiiand most of them are American citizens--have contributed immensely to the prosperity. growth. and welfare of our island State. We are truly indebted to them.
