We were gratified by the many people who voiced their support. but. of course. there were some who protested. There were those who said. "Weve got enough problems without bringing In another planeload." There were those who said. "We dont have enough jobs for our own people. Why should we add to that burden?" Wed like to point out to them that these Cuban refugees are not asking for handouts. theyre not asking for pity. and theyre not asking for someone elses job. Theyre only asking for a chance to share with us the freedoms and opportunities of the free world. They are anxious to become a part of our community to help it to grow and to grow with it.
