The most remarkable achievement of Israels 14 years of independence has been to maintain her democratic institutions. In the face of extremely difficult problems of domestic and foreign policy. Israel has continued to carry out the business of government in her Parliament. Israels political life is never dull. Fifteen political parties compete for political power. Since Israel is a land of immigrants. many different social and religious convictions are represented among the numerous parties. Israel has demonstrated that rapid social and economic progress is compatible with democratic government. May other newly independent nations take inspiration from her example.
