Bishop Gilmore died on April 2. in San Francisco. from an apparent heart attack which was later diagnosed as asphyxiation from food lodged in his throat. He was stricken while attending a dinner which honored the Most Reverend Joseph T. McGucken on the event of his enthronement as Archbishop of San Francisco. Funeral services with solemn pontifical Mass of requiem in St. Helenas Cathedral will be held this morning. April 11. at 11 a.m. The Mass will be celebrated by the Most Reverend Edward D. Howard. archbishop of Portland. His Eminence James Francis Cardinal McIntyre. of Los Angeles. will represent the Holy Father at the services.
