Session #87 · 1961–63

Speech #870161729

The Lithuanian people were reduced to Soviet serfs. The country was locked behind the Iron Curtain. When the Soviets retook the country in 1944. some 80.000 Lithuanians fled to West Germany. Another 60.000 were found in East Germany and deported to. Siberia. During 1945 and 1946 an additional 145.000 were deported. Still another massive deportation occurred in 1949 in answer to passive resistance of the farming population to the collectivization of agriculture. The free world denounced the barbaric and illegal Nazi and Soviet acts on and against Lithuania. Many nations of the free world have not recognized the incorporation of Lithuania into the Soviet Empire.
