Session #87 · 1961–63

Speech #870159491

Lithuania is not free. Today. the people of Lithuania do not enjoy the freedom and liberty they once knew. Today. as we pay tribute to the anniversary of Lithuanias independence. we must also take note of another anniversarythat of her enslavement. Since 1940. Lithuania has been dominated by the Soviet Union. Her people have witnessed mass deportations to slave labor camps. The Soviet Union has exploited this country to the point where freedom exists only in the hearts of the Lithuanian people. I salute the valiant people of Lithuania. who. in the face of such great odds. have continued to fight against oppression.
