I am a member of the Subcommittee on Constitutional Rights. Let me say that. as the chairman knows. as a member of that committee I have been pressing to have a higher priority given to all the civil rights bills that are before the committee. We have dealt with the constitutional rights of the criminally insane. the mentally ill. and the Indians and may soon have hearings on the rights of soldiers and immigrants. These are important subjects and I have fully participated in all of our hearings and reports. But we have given civil rights legislation no attention or priority.
