Speech #870152396

This was their bait. But they also peddled Communist propaganda which was based in large part on their members ties with their home countries and was designed to promote among them a feeling of resentment against the United States. of sympathy for communism. and of separateness from other Americans. thus preventing their development as loyal American citizens. Another example: the American Committee for the Protection of Foreign Born. the oldest extant Communist front in the United States. Its origin dates back to the 1920s. The primary purpose of this group is to provide legal and financial assistance to foreignborn Communists who run afoul of the laws of the United States. to prevent their deportation if possible and generally to weaken our immigration laws. particularly as regards their security provisions. This group has an additional function. howeverthat of preventing the foreign born from becoming fully integrated into American society. This groups literature exaggerates the difficulties new arrivals and the foreign born have in this country. It harps on the theme that they are secondclass citizens and fosters antagonism toward the Government within nationalities groups. Its very name is an implication that the foreign born need protection from the U.S. Government. In order to promote its fragmentation work. the Communist Party has set up numerous other fronts based on the national origins of various groups in this country.
