I take this opportunity to bring once again to the attention of my colleagues in this House the plight of some 200.000 working Americans and their families who are now living in the kind of squalor and poverty that made men shudder more than 100 years ago. I refer to the migrant farmworkers of this country. who have until only recently been generally ignored by the public. the press. and. I feel. the Congress of the United States. Many thousands of these workers are living today in the conditions which I have described. able to find work on only about 130 days of each year. often earning only around 50 cents per hour and too often forced to take their undernourished children into the fields so that the family can survive.
