Session #87 · 1961–63

Speech #870144104

In my State there are a great many people whose folks originally came from Poland. They have become distressed lately by developments such as those mentioned by the Senator from Ohio this morning. I join with him in calling upon our immigration authorities to take a more realistic and sympathetic view of situations involving escapees from communism. just as we did when Hungarians were shot down by the thousands by the Russians. We opened our gates and took thousands of them into this country in order to protect them against that kind of abuse and brutality. I am glad the Senator from Ohio has given me a chance to fully endorse his position on this issue this morning.
