Session #87 · 1961–63

Speech #870131670

Chairman. undoubtedly the Members of the House realize that the opposition to this bill has no hope of defeating it. nevertheless. some of us would like to put our views on record. The gentleman from Idaho made a very. very eloquent plea a while ago about carrying knowledge of our country to people around the world. To me. that seems wholly unnecessary. That conclusion is based on the fact that the gentleman from Pennsylvania seems to find it necessary to restrict immigration because so many people wish. yes insist. upon coming to and remaining in this country. It is obvious that the people the world over know about this country and its advantages and want to come here. They think there is something better here than anywhere else.
