Session #87 · 1961–63

Speech #870111330

Their spouses and minor children. some not even living in this country will acquire automatic citizenship if the beneficiaries obtain that status. I am asking this bill to be passed over in order that the chairman of the Judiciary Committee may further assure the House by a statement in the RECORD that we are not in any way establishing a precedent for any persons admitted subsequently under general law for similar reasons. Such admittance now comes under section 101(a)(15)(H) of the McCarranWalter Immigration Act. Such persons should not be admitted under the illusion they may later become permanent residents and thereby apply for citizenship for themselves and for their spouses and minor children.
