The manifesto is certainly Khrushchevs call to the other Communists to follow the leaderthe Russian leader. not the Chinese. The line he offers may well be a lot more appealing to other Communists than Mao Tsetungs program of starvation at home and aggression abroad. But the real test of Khrushchevs pie in the sky will be the eating of it. It is an ironic coincidence that on the very day Khrushchev was preparing the Russians for prosperity and plenty. more than 2.000 refugees fled from Communist East Germany. a near record. These are the people who have heard Soviet promises before and know only too well what the reality is. Communist doubletalk does not fool them anymore.
