The effect of this amendment is solely to confirm existing authority as it now stands. The two related changes on page 26. lines 15 and 16 of the bill. basically are also of an editorial character. They remedy an imperfection in the phrasing of an amendment to the Immigration and Nationality Act which was submitted by the executive branch and accepted by the committee. We have been in touch with the executive branch and the Senate Immigration Subcommittee staff and have complete assurance that these two oneword changes are necessary to the proper interpretation of these lines in the bill.
