Session #87 · 1961–63

Speech #870070787

The Senator has properly noted that there are certain obstacles and obstructions in the matter of our customs and consular offices. visas. and so forth. The subject ought to be carefully examined. I rise today merely to put the agencies concerned on notice. so far as the Senate can do so. that we want prompt action and that we say there will be a determined effort to put this program into effect quickly. I know the Department of Commerce will move readily in the program. because the Department has been waiting for the reorganization and particular directive. The 50 States of this Union now have an opportunity to tie in a great tourist and travel program with the new U.S.
