It was on this day. 21 years ago. that the Soviet Army took over the independent State of Lithuania by force. 2 days later. the Russians occupied the other two Baltic States. Latvia and Estonia. As if the snuffing out of the liberty of these three nations was not a sufficiently brutal act. the Soviets just 1 year later. on June 15. 194120 years ago todaycompleted their first mass deportations of citizens from the three Baltic States to prison and work camps within the interior of Russia. On this day. commemorating these two tragic occasions. let us express our hope that the peoples of the Baltic States may soon again live in freedom in their homeland. Israels Bar Mitzvah
