This mockery of the democratic process was not taken quietly by the Lithuanian people who doggedly organized resistance to the Soviet Union. Passive resistance demonstrations marked the farcical elections and a year after Soviet occupation a spontaneous and general revolt against Soviet rule broke out in which some 90.000 brave Lithuanian guerrillas took part.
