By midJune 1940. the country was taken over by the Red army and soon after made part of the Soviet Union. These events took place in the midst of oppression and terror. At the outset several thousand prominent Lithuanians were arrested and exiled to Asiatic Russia. This went on for more than a year and by June 1941. the number of Lithuanians thus exiled to Sibera and other regions of Russia were counted in the tens of thousands. Today in observing the deportation anniversary of these patriotic and freedomloving Lithuanians we express our deep concern over their tragic plight. Abuse of Corporate Authority
