The other assumption that any city veteran can go to the Chase National Bank in New York City and get a loan on a house is somewhat farfetched. The huge size of the big city banks frequently discourages application. I invite attention to the fact that perhaps the group which is most deprived of opportunities is the group of the sons of immigrants and Negroes who served in the Armed Forces. who have returned to civil life. and who wish to establish homes. but who do not have financial institutions close at hand from which they can borrow. They cannot go to the huge downtown banks. and they need credit as badly as do the boys from the countryside. If it is believed that there are ample credit facilities for veterans everywhere.
