The nation is Israel which was formed as the result of United Nations action with the strong support of the United States. The citizens of Israel are mostly Jewish immigrants from lands where that minority had been suppressed. Principally. of course. the people of Israel were survivors of the Nazi atrocities against the Jews all over Europe. atrocities in which millions perished and hundreds of thousands were left homeless at the end of World War II. The civilized nations of the world took cognizance of this deplorable state of affairs and granted to this segment of the Jewish people. through United Nations recognition of Israel. the right to return to the land of their ancestors.
