It is the will of the West to preserve and expand the area of freedom. combined with the will of the nations of eastcentral Europe to become free again. that offers the best guarantee of victory and of a true peace. Representative WALTEs forthright views and unflinching determination was bound to make him a target of hostile criticism from various quarters. One of the most conspicuously unjust instances of such criticism was the inference that he had opposed liberal legislation in the area of immigration. We. on the contrary. are both cognizant of Representative WALTERS past contributions to broadminded and humanitarian immigration laws. and confident that he will propose new liberal legislation which will enable the eastern European refugees from communism to enter the United States.
