Mr. President. shortly after my first election to the U.S. Senate. I had the privilege of becoming acquainted with Mr. Felix Cohen. the outstanding legal authority on American Indians. I came to value his counsel greatly. not only on Indian affairs. but also on immigration legislation and on other problems affecting underprivileged groups. I was greatly saddened by his premature death in 1953. To make certain that his writings are kept alive. Mr. Cohens widow. Mrs. Lucy Cohen. has over the years patiently and persistently worked on the preparation of a volume of Mr. Cohens most important articles. The book which she produced. and which has just been published. is a reflection of Felix Cohen and his life.
