Mr. President. as one of the cosponsors of S. 610. a proposal to establish an Office of International Travel which was introduced by the senior Senator from Washington. I was especially interested in the following statement: Its tougher for an educated. desirable Japanese tourist with loads of cash to spend in hotels. restaurants. shops. etc.. to get an entry visa for the United States than for Soviet Russia. This statement was written by nationally known columnist Sylvia Porter and was published in the Sherman. Tex.. Democrat. In the article she gives a number of specific examples of governmental policies which discourage tourists from visiting our country. Since one objective of the proposed Office of International Travel would be to cut redtape on the issuance of visas. this article should be of keen interest to the Congress.
