Here. on this narrow rim of earth. between the Mediterranean and the Euphrates. there Is an entire generation of refugees washed up by all the tides that divide this planet politically. The ArabIsraeli stalemate. the EastWest Cold War. the Suez crisis. the arms race. and even the population explosion. In 1948. there were about 750.000 refugees in Gaza. Jordan. Lebanon. and Syria. Now. with virtually no new adult victims entering. the number is more than 1 million and still increasing. This nation of DPs was born out of the Palestine struggle of 1948.
