Session #86 · 1959–61

Speech #860258918

Mr. President. this is World Refugee Year and there are several bills pending in Congress affecting our immigration laws and refugee programs. President Eisenhower has proposed several changes in existing law. and I am hopeful that we shall have an opportunity to vote on the proposals before this session of Congress ends. The national origins quota system is inaccurate. discriminatory. and unfair and based on past history. should be changed. The Council of Churches of Greater Kansas City covers the States of both Kansas and Missouri and at a recent meeting made several recommendations on immigration. I ask unanimous consent that their views be printed in the RECORD. and referred to the appropriate committee.
