They build a nations pillars deep. And lift them to the sky." From its earliest beginnings. America has been a land of immigrants. of people of various national origins. All of us are very proud of the fact that these nationality groups have brought with them to this country the rich heritage of their national culture. along with their passionate love for freedom and human dignity. They have helped build America. physically and spiritually. to its present greatness. They have made wonderful contributions to America in every sphere of activity. These nationality groupsand I include not only the original immigrant generations. but their children and grandchildren as wellalways were and still are among the most loyal. devoted. industrious. and hardworking citizens in our country. They came to this country primarily because of political oppression. religious persecution. economic dislocation. abject poverty. and no opportunity of ever improving their lot in their homeland. Here they found a country which offered them life. liberty. and an opportunity for all.
