President Jackson was born in Lancaster County. S.C.. a part of the district I now have the honor of representing in the Congress. The address follows: Mr. Chairman. distinguished guests. ladies and gentlemen. it is good that we gather here today to commemorate the birth of the man who made sacred the soil on which we stand. One hundred and ninetythree years ago. here was born of an Irish immigrant. only 2 years after he came to this country to seek freedom. Andrew Jackson. Shortly before Andrew Jacksons birth. the father died. leaving a widow with three sons to face an unfriendly wilderness.
