Now. to pass on to the Department of Justice. the total amount contained in the bill for that Department is $278.220.180. a reduction of $2.679.820 in the amount of the budget estimates and an Increase of $12.120.180 over the amounts appropriated for the current fiscal year. The Increases allowed are distributed as follows: Legal activities and general administration. $1.475.180. Federal Bureau of Investigation. $3.400.000. This will include. as I said awhile ago. the 137 additional clerical positions in that agency. The increases. further. are in the Immigration and Naturalization Service in the amount of $2.300.000. and the Federal Prison System. $4.945.000. There is an Item in connection with the appropriation for U.S. attorneys and marshals which has been given careful consideration by the committee. It concerns the appointment of land commissioners by judges in certain parts of the country.
