Session #86 · 1959–61

Speech #860191447

The "Know Nothings" have been lost in history of the past. The Irish are a vital part of the warp and woof of the fabric of life of the United States. When the Italians came along. they faced even greater difficulties. because they had been preceded by some members of the Mafia. who had been driven out of Italy because they were criminals. That prejudiced many people against the decent Italian immigrants. The Italians did not seek to have a law enacted to make people recognize them and take them in socially. They set about to prove their worth. and they did It.
