If the VOA should fail to give full coverage to this occasion and the manner In which it has won recognition in the United States. we shall have good reason to feel that the intent of Congress. as expressed by Public Law 8690. is being ignored by those with the duty to carry out policy in the executive branch of the Government. I hope we may soon have from the VOA a report. in detail. of the manner in which the Ukrainian language program gave coverage to the American commemoration of this 42d anniversary of Ukrainian independence. The news that leaks out from behind the Iron Curtain as to the trials and deportations of Ukrainian freedom fighters attests to the continuing resistance there. I take pleasure. therefore. in paying a welldeserved tribute to the spirit of the Ukrainian people and their tireless devotion to the cause of human liberty.
