I was somewhat amused by it. As I said. I never had heard of this man before. but I doubt if he thought he was doing anything improper. People get peculiar ideas. One time an immigrant who had recently come to this country came into my office and planked $500 on my desk and said. "I need some help in a problem." I do not think that man realized he was doing anything wrong. It may be the man who sent these checks did not. I have been more severely attacked in columns than I have been in the column mentioned today.
