Arizona. Wisconsin. New Jersey. Kansas. and Colorado were next in order. The Department of Labor has published a map of the United States showing 251 important areas where substantial work is available for migratory workers. These areas can be found in all States but Vermont and West Virginia. In short. to a greater or lesser extent. the problems of the migrant worker are nationwide. These problems will not disappear. The trends in American agriculture have been toward larger holdings. mechanization. and crop specialization. The consequent result is a critical need for large numbers of harvesting workers for relatively brief periods of time.
