Walz and Stepanovich explained the beginning and the significance of World Refugee Year to the steering committee members. Both Lake County personalities are acquainted with international refugee problems and both have been very active on a national scale in helping seek solutions to these problems. The United Nations has designated July 1. 1959. to June 30. 1960. as World Refugee Year. A6713 World Refugee Year has these aims: 1. To focus interest on the refugee problem and to encourage additional financial contributions from governments. voluntary agencies. and the general public for its solution. 2. To encourage additional opportunities for refugee solutions. through voluntary repatriation. resettlement or integration. on a purely humanitarian basis and in accordance with the freely expressed wishes of the refugees themselves.
