We are aroused as never before and we want an end to the ill founded. vague condemnation of a fine. loyal. and industrious people whosince the discovery of America by one of their forbearshave given it their full measure of devotion. Mr. Speaker. may I add at this point that the newspaper 11 Progresso has over the many decades of its existence rendered great services to immigrants from Italy in helping them become integrated in this country and in familiarizing them with the American way of life and the American concept of freedom and democracy. In fact. it can be truly said that this newspaper has helped raise several generations of devoted Americans. Today. it is in the forefront of the campaign to defend the good name of the Italian community in this country. the immigrants and the children of immigrants. against those who are casting aspersions on all ItalianAmericans. For this service. it deserves our special recognition and deep appreciation. I have forwarded a letter to the Attorney General of the United States in which I call his attention to this "campaign of defamation" against a whole people.
