Pokrass was born in Korsun. Russia. July 17. 1898. He came to the United States in 1913 or 1914. enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1918. was naturalized in New York City on September 5. 1918. and received an honorable discharge from the Navy in 1919. During the prohibition era Mr. Pokrass was arrested four times for violations of the National Prohibition Act.
