I agree thoroughly with the remarks made by the distinguished Senator from South Dakota. The refugee problem is one of the most serious which we face. It is appropriate that we make provision for it. it seems to me. I am not wedded necessarily to the language of the distinguished Senators amendment. but I think this Is the time to make appropriate provision for assistance in the solution of the refugee problem. which is a worldwide problem. and in which it should be pointed out that up to date there are several countries which have done considerably more. percentagewise. than has our own country. But our own country should certainly take its share of the burden in attempting to solve the heartrending problems relating to those refugees. many of whom have been driven out of their own countries. many of whom have lived under tyranny. and who deserve our help in this problem. Furthermore. it is definitely to the advantage of our country. in its standing with the other nations of the world. that it bear its share in the solution of the problem.
