Session #86 · 1959–61

Speech #860029175

Mr. President. on behalf of the junior Senator from Oregon and myself. I introduce for appropriate reference a bill to make eligible for admission as immigrants into the United States husbands. wives. children and parents of residents and citizens. when such immigrants have tuberculosis. The bill would prevent the close relatives of citizens and aliens lawfully admitted for permanent residence from being excluded from the United States solely because they are afflicted with this disease. This is not a new proposal. It was a part of the bill I introduced in the last Congress which. after enactment. became known as Public Law 85316.
