Bridges. but the fact remains that Hawaiis economy is based principally on shipping. which cannot be comparable to shipping as it affects the various States of the Union. because various other means of transportation are to be had. But. in Hawaii it is strictly a shipping proposition. Another objection that was heard throughout the years against Hawaii being brought into the Union was that many Congresses have felt that inasmuch as the people of Asiatic descent greatly outnumber the people of white blood. that that is also a question that * should be taken into consideration. The fact that there are so many more people of Asiatic descent there in those islands undoubtedly had some influence in previous Congresses for not permitting them to come into the Union. Now. in regard to contiguous territory. I personally am aware in the organizing our 48 States they went across the continent to build a greater America.
